ANDALUSIA: GOLFER’S IDEAL DESTINATION
With its delicious beaches, exquisite cuisine and vibrant culture, there are infinite reasons to visit Andalusia, but one thing it is certainly renowned for is being a golfer’s paradise.
As Europe’s leading golf destination, Andalusia is the perfect place to enjoy your favorite sport and hit some balls on world-class golf courses. The region is lucky enough to experience around 300 days of sunshine a year, making it the perfect climate for a golf holiday at any time of the year.
Golfers can enjoy themselves in Andalusia.
The Costa del Sol is also known as Costa del Golf because it has the highest concentration of golf courses in Europe (more than 70 golf courses to choose from in the region).
When you look at the map, the area around the famous places turns green because of the golf courses.
Why is Andalusia the ideal destination?
Andalusia is the ideal destination for lovers of this sport. Although there are many golf courses in Spain, the Costa del Golf is one of the most famous areas where you can practice this sport for many reasons:
The climate in southern Spain makes that you can play golf all year round. Here you can enjoy an average of 300 days of sunshine per year. This makes it an ideal location to play golf. The temperature is pleasant all year round, please note that it can be very hot in July and August so a start time later in the afternoon is recommended! In spring and autumn, it is wonderful to play golf on one of the many golf courses. There are therefore many organizations that offer organized golf trips.
The location of Malaga airport, right in the middle of the area, also means that most destinations are at a short distance from the airport. Most golf courses have a beautiful view of the Mediterranean Sea. Due to its exceptional location by the Mediterranean Sea, the beautiful Costa del Sol region is brimming with golfing opportunities and top destinations to visit. Hosting the highest concentration of golf courses in Europe with over 60 golf courses in the area, it is no surprise that this Spanish costa has earned its nickname as ‘Costa del Golf’.
Real golf lovers can also buy a home at a golf course. In Spain, therefore, houses are classified according to their location at a golf course. Living at the golf course offers many advantages. So you will often have a beautiful panoramic view, and it is usually quiet there even though you always have something to see.
Most golf courses are close to the sea so there are several golf course houses that also enjoy sea views.
Andalusia offers more than 100 golf destinations to choose from, with courses located in beautiful mountain landscapes, in the cities and overlooking stunning beaches. With their stretching coastlines, Málaga and Cádiz are hugely popular with golfers. Beginners, amateurs and professionals alike can enjoy.
In recent years golf has definitively shaken off its image in Spain as something of an elite sporting pursuit. First Severiano Ballesteros, then José María Olazábal and Sergio García, and more recently Jon Rahm, have helped popularise the game to such an extent that it now has the fourth highest number of officially registered participants (with the respective regional federations) in Spain, only topped by football, basketball, and hunting. In short, golf is now cool and enjoyed by aficionados of all ages, backgrounds, and budgets.
And the coolest golfing playground of them all is the Costa del Sol, where beginners can learn the game at one of several state-of-the-art academies and more experienced players can challenge themselves on courses where the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Greg Norman, Ernie Els, Bernhard Langer, Dame Laura Davies, Francesco Molinari, and Málaga-born Miguel Ángel Jiménez have tested their own elite skills.
